Religious Department of the Diocese to Hold a Day-Long Retreat in April


The Retreat Committee of Western Diocese is happy to inform you that, this year, we are again planning an exciting spiritual retreat for all parishioners, from Tuesday April 8 at 10:00 a.m. to Wednesday April 9 at 11:00 a.m., 2014 at Mater Dolorosa Passionist Retreat Center where you can enjoy peaceful and tranquil atmosphere (700 N. Sunnyside Ave., Sierra Madre, CA 91024).

The theme of the retreat is “The Lenten Journey; How can it be the reflection of a renewed lifestyle with improved moral and spiritual values?” we will learn about history of Lent and fasting practices in Armenian  Apostolic Church. We will update our faith by discussing the topics of self-examination, self-discipline, abstinence from desirable aspects of life including control over food intake, more time for prayers, introspection and church services. Fr. Nerses Hayrapetyan will be heading the retreat along with the Very Rev. Fr. Dajad Dz. V. Yardemian, Arch. Fr. Vartan Kasparian, Fr. Khajag Shahbazyan, Fr. Zaven  Markosyan, Fr. Sarkis Petoyan, Fr. Mesrop Ash, Fr. Krikor Zakaryan, Fr. Haroutioun Tachejian, Fr. Avedis Abovian, Arch. Fr. Shnork Demirjian, Mashdots Jobanian, Hayk Madoyan and Diran Avakian. With Diocesan Primate Archbishop Hovnan Derderian present for the service, the Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday morning April 8.

The lectures will be both in English and Armenian. There will be an outside sacramental procession of the cross with candles, hymns and prayers as the walk of Christ to Calvary (Khatchi Tapor). This year each retreater will have the opportunity to have a Private session with the pastors as well as a quiet time to reflect on his or her faith.
